Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Investing contest winner Irene Seto receives her prize from ASC’s Director of Communications and Investor Education, Tamera Van Brunt.

CALGARY – November 17, 2011 – The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) has announced the winner of its Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Investing, But Were Afraid To Ask online contest as part of Investor Education month. Irene Seto of Calgary is the winner of a BlackBerry® 16GB PlayBook with Wi-Fi.

“Learning how to take care of your money is an important life skill, but not an easy one to learn. As a young investor, I am always looking for ways to learn more about investing and saving for my future,” said Seto.  “The contest allowed me to ask the questions I wanted to know about in a friendly and accessible way from qualified, unbiased experts.”

Albertans entered the online contest throughout October via Twitter or through an online form found on the ASC website.   The goal of the contest was to encourage Albertans to ask the ASC questions and check out the tools and resources that the ASC has available to help them make informed investing decisions.  In total, the public submitted 99 eligible questions ranging in topic from What is short selling? to What are the pros and cons of borrowing money to invest? to How do I research whether an investment company is legitimate?

“We were impressed by the level of detail in the questions we received as it indicates Albertans are keen to better inform themselves about investing and how to protect themselves from an unsuitable investment,” says Tamera Van Brunt, ASC’s director of Communications and Investor Education. “We hope that through the contest, participants became more familiar with the unbiased investing information that can help them research any potential investment.”

To find out the questions submitted during the contest and the answers visit the Your Investing Questions page in the For Investors section on the ASC website, www.albertasecurities.com
