Be Wary of Genius Funds’ Promises Investors, be warned. There is a company making high yield promises that has caught the eye of several securities commissions. Genius Funds is a company that is actively promoting unusually high returns – as much as 1.9 per cent daily and 9 per cent weekly – on its website, social media sites and online advertising. ASC and the British Columbia Securities Commission have issued temporary cease trade orders against Genius Funds, based on allegations that the company has breached securities laws in these provinces. As well, the New Brunswick Securities Commission and the Manitoba Securities Commission have issued warnings to investors about the company. This latest ASC order against Genius Funds is something Alberta investors should take a look at because the company’s promotions raise a red flag when it comes to investing. Promises of high returns come with high risk. Here are some additional questions to ask yourself: - Do you understand how the investment works?
- What does an independent financial advisor think about the opportunity? Have you asked?
- Is the company registered to sell securities in Alberta?
- Does this high risk opportunity fit with your risk tolerance level?
- How much are you prepared to lose?
If you have seen or heard of Genius Funds engaging in investor activities in Alberta, please call the ASC at (403) 355-4151, toll-free: (877) 355-4488 or email inquiries@asc.ca. They are not registered to engage in the business of dealing in securities in Alberta.
