Top five investor resources on our website
Did you know that 42% of Albertans believe they have been approached with a fraudulent investment? Here at the ASC, we want you to be armed and ready when that next investment opportunity comes knocking at your door.
That’s why we ran an Alberta-wide campaign during investor month in October to help Albertans know about the resources the ASC has to help them when making a decision about their next investment.
Over 80% of Albertans 35 years or older saw our TV commercial and we had a record number of visits to our investor resources on our website. What did they find of value? Here are the top five places they looked:
- Our website itself, www.albertasecurities.com . After our TV commercial and online ads went up, we saw an increase of 92% in the number of For Investors pages viewed, and visits to this section went up 43%! Over 11,600 people clicked through our investor information and found content that interested or was helpful to them, so be sure to explore all of our website and share the link with others.
- The For Investors section. This is essentially the gateway to the investing information you need to know and is the most popular section of our website. Find answers to your most common How Do I? questions, learn more investment terms in our Glossary or simply find out how to get started if you don’t think you’re ready to invest.
- Check First tools. Visitors looked at links in this section to Red Flags, Background Check, and the Top Ten Investing Mistakes. Here you can learn how to ask the right questions about investing and watch our short videos that profile real Albertans who came close to losing money in an investment scam.
- Investor Watch page. In this section, people found a link to our latest enforcement orders and decisions and took some time to read up on important investor alerts and notices. Make sure you aren’t one of the 12% of Albertans who invest in a scam after being approached with a fraudulent investment and take time to read through this section.
- Courses and Resources section. Visitors here found a link to our new free online course called Investment Scams: How to Protect Your Money. Teachers and parents found links to our free brochures and reading materials as well as helpful websites and resources for talking to kids about money. Want to learn even more about investing? Find the links to our Basics of Investing class in Calgary and Edmonton and join over 670 Albertans who have taken the class since it was first offered in 2004.
Remember, next time you’re approached with an investment opportunity, be sure to Check First and make ASC one of your first stops.
